Amada Armenta is a Postdoc at the at the Institute for the Social Sciences at Cornell University. She specializes in the areas of international migration, urban sociology, law, and race/ethnicity. Her dissertation, "Policing Immigrants: The Local Dilemmas of Immigration Enforcement" examines the politics and implementation of immigration enforcement in Nashville, Tennessee. Amada's articles can be found in Law & Policy, Qualitative Sociology, and Annual Review of Sociology. Her research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the American Society of Criminology, and the American Sociological Association.
Amada grew up in El Centro, California, a town 10 miles from the Mexican border. She enjoys traveling, playing tennis, and watching Dodgers baseball.
